Dr Nicholas Maxey and Dr Maggi Gee are partners at the Bourne and Coningsby dental practices. They have a keen interest in facial cosmetics and the treatment of facial lines. Both Dr Maxey and Dr Gee have undergone training in Botulinum Toxin Therapy (Botox®) for the treatment of lines and wrinkles.

What Is Botox®

Botox® is a purified protein, which when injected into specific target muscles, causes them to relax. The relaxed muscles can not contract under the skin and so the lines do not appear.

How long will the effects last

The relaxation of these muscles depends on the size; usually effects are seen after 5-7 days and a review appointment is recommended after 2 weeks. The effects usually last for 3-4 months. After several treatments this can often be increased to 5-6 months.

Side Effects

As with all prescription medicines, Botox® can cause side effects. Most of the side effects experienced by patients are mild and short lived, and are linked to the injection procedure e.g redness, slight swelling and mild discomfort on injection. Other side effects such as ptosis (drooping of the upper eyelid) can sometimes occur and is temporary.
